Twice a year Ascension makes gumbo—in November, in time for Thanksgiving, and in January, in time for the Super Bowl. The Gray House is action central where pots are stirred and from there gumbo is sold. Parishioners take turns with the many tasks involved in the operation and, when the January weather is frigid, parishioners also gather in the Gray House to warm up between shifts.
