Son Rise, September 2009 - Stewardship"Christian stewardship is grateful and responsible use of God's gifts in the light of God's purpose as revealed in Jesus Christ. Christian stewards, empowered by the Holy Spirit, commit themselves to conscious, purposeful decisions. Both for the individual and for the community, stewardship is a joyful act for the sake of God's world." (Ecumenical Stewardship Center) During the Lenten season, our stewardship emphasis was on Green Living—using God's gifts wisely and protecting God's earth for those who come after us. Four stewardship seminars were held. Special thanks go to Howard Stroud and John Malone for their presentations on family legal planning and environmental stewardship. Our discussions also included the "Four R's" of Green Living:
Now with autumn rapidly approaching, it is time to begin our annual campaign where each of us has an opportunity to pledge our time, talent, and money to God's work on Earth. Rally Day, scheduled for September 13, will start the process with various church guilds and ministries setting up exhibits to showcase possibilities for service and fellowship. Other activities will be announced in the church bulletin. The Stewardship Committee urges you to join in this community activity and help us to share the Good News, nurture our relationship with God, and use God-given resources wisely. Stewardship Prayer O Lord, giver of life, we know that it is from your hand that we have received all we have, and are, and will be. We understand that You call us to be the stewards of Your abundance, the caretakers of all You have entrusted to us. Help us always to use Your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously.
