The Adult Ed committee has chosen the movie of C. S. Lewis' "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," Harold S. Kushner's book, When Bad Things Happen to Good People, and the movie "Inside Moves" for our summer adult and family education program.
"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" tells the story of four English children who discover a magical wardrobe through which they enter the snow covered land of Narnia. It becomes their destiny to free Narnia from the evil white witch with the guidance of a spiritual lion, Aslan. It is an allegory of evil and redemption through sacrifice.
When Bad Things Happen to Good People gives wise, compassionate, and practical advice on how to cope with anger, guilt, and grief following potentially overwhelming losses. It also addresses the issue of why God does not control the course of nature and the behavior of evil people. (10 copies will be available in the church office, $8).
"Insides Moves" (rated PG) chronicles the story of Roary, who, after a failed suicide attempt leaves him partially paralyzed, spends a lot of time in a neighborhood bar full of disabled folks, mostly guys. The plot revolves around his friendship with the bartender who can not afford an operation that could get him back to the NBA. The movie is a mixture of community, humor, pain, and positive thinking.
