Summer School at Ascension - Son Rise, June 2011

Adult Education shifts into summer mode this month as we begin our once-a-month book studies. Here's a brief look at what we will be reading.

Tuesday, June 14, 6 PM: If You Know Who You Are You'll Know What To Do by Ronald Greer, a Methodist minister and pastoral counselor. Says Greer, "People today want to live with more depth and authenticity – to be true to who God created them to be. There is a desire to get it right, to live lives of integrity. But what does integrity mean? This book is for those who want to understand what integrity means, how it can benefit them, and how to apply it to their lives."

Tuesday, July 12, 6 PM: Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear. Colton talked about people and details that were impossible for him to know. Told by Colton's father Todd Burpo, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place.

Tuesday, August 9, 6 PM: Love Wins. Pastor Rob Bell tackles the difficult question millions of Christians have struggled with and that is how do you reconcile God's love and God's judgment. Bell asks, "Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? There is no doubt these are troubling questions... so troubling that many have lost their faith because of them. "But," continues Bell, "what if these questions trouble us for good reason? What if it is God who wants us to face these questions?"

We hope you will mark these dates on your calendars and join us for fellowship and lively discussion. Each book presents us with some provocative questions, not the least of which are "how, then, do we live?," "what happens when you die?," and "what about judgment?"
